We're at about the halfway mark of the 2007 season. Two games this week:
Wed. 5/2 Novi
Fri. 5/4 @ South Lyon
Varsity results from previous games:
Novi - In a rather unusual event, all records of games against Novi have been destroyed in a fire. Nobody was hurt, no other damage, just all records of Novi games are gone.
South Lyon. Earlier this season, SLHS started the game very aggressively scoring two goals in the first 10 minutes of play to end the Mav's 4 game winning streak. The Lions have also beaten Pinckney since the last meeting.

As with most High Schools, the two weeks following spring break are pretty busy. Three games for the Lady Mavs this week:
Mon 4/23/07 North Farmington - Away (32900 W 13 Mile Rd)
Wed 4/25/07 Brighton - Away
Fri 4/27/07 Hartland - Home
Last years Varsity results:
North Farmington - 2-4 loss in a relatively close game. Shrewsbury scored two and Brown, Martens and McCall registered assists. North Farmington is having a good season so far this year with wins over Kettering, Harrison, Berkley and Dearborn and ties against South Lyon and Howell.
Brighton - 0-7 loss. So far this season, Brighton has tied Okemos and Mercy and defeated Flint Powers, Pinckney and Hartland.
Hartland - 1-3 loss in a game that was in striking distance for the Mavs until the end. Gilbert scored, assisted by Martens. This season, Hartland has played a pretty tough schedule having lost to some pretty strong teams in Walled Lake Central, Dexter, Novi and Brighton and gaining a win vs. Howell.

The Silpada fundraiser due date has been moved to Sunday, 4/22, 7:30-9pm at the Comeback inn...
Based on discussions with parents at tonight's game, seems like a number of you could use a few more days on the fundraiser. If waiting until Sunday makes a difference for you, esp. if you were out of town during Easter break, or a little overwhelmed with 3 games this week (!), then go ahead and bring your packet/orders to the Comeback Inn as described below. If you're all set, you can turn your envelope in tomorrow, Thurs., as originally planned.
Hopefully, each player has found a way to contribute to the team, whether through the jewelry sale, direct donations, your own bottle drive, etc. The target of $75 in profit per player will bring the team to more than 1/2 the way to the $4000-4500 goal -- definitely easing the load for the other planned fundraisers (car wash, etc.)
Please don't hesitate to call or email me if you have any ?s.

This is a reminder of the important dates this week as we wrap-up the fundraiser:
Packets are due before practice this Thursday, 4/19 @ 2:20pm -- I'll be at the field
Sunday, 4/22 7:30-9pm at Comeback Inn (across the street from MHS) While practice is going on (practice is 7-8:30pm), I'll have the jewelry on display where parents can join me for a refreshment & see (and try on) the pieces -- players can come over after practice. You can really appreciate the quality & workmanship in person. This is the last chance to finalize selections of prizes, determine the Top Varsity & JV winners, hold the drawing for the $50-$199 participants, and any last minute changes/additions to orders.

*** CHANGE FOR 4/17/07 - VARSITY PLAYS AT 4:00PM !
Tue, 4/17/07: Thurston - Away - Note early start times 4:00 Varsity, 5:30 JV
Wed, 4/18/07: South Lyon - Home
Fri, 4/20/07: Lakeland - Away
Varsity's recent history against these teams:
Redford Thurston - No recent history. Thurston's record this season is 2-2 with wins against John Glenn and Monroe and losses to Berkley and Ladywood.
South Lyon - South Lyon has finished 3rd in the KVC each of the last six seasons. South Lyon (2-4-0) has played a pretty tough schedule so far this year and this will be the first KVC match for both teams. Last year the Mavs played three games against the Lions:
Game 1 - An early season road game dominated by South Lyon resulted in a 0-4 loss
Game 2 - Milford fights back in a close, evenly matched game resulting in a 0-1 loss. Unlucky.
Game 3 - In the first round of Districts, MHS lost a pretty even match 0-2
Lakeland - Oh Yeah. This is what it's all about.
Game 1 - Goals by Hubbard, Garshott and Allward offset 2 LHS goals for a 3-2 win. 3 assists given by Shrewsbury. All scoring occurred in the first half, both defenses pwned the second half.
Game 2 - A back-and-forth game where Martens hits Gilbert for a breakaway goal. The 1-0 lead stands until, with 9 seconds left, a clearly offside LHS striker puts a shot into the net. The LHS contingent suggested that the MHS goal was offside as well, so everything is "even".

Since there's no games this week, let's talk about something else ...
The 2007 District assignments have been posted for a few weeks.
For the first time in a long while, neither Novi or Brighton is in the Mavericks District. Although they are all nice people, they won't be missed.
The pairings for first round will be randomly drawn and since there is an odd number of teams, one random team will recieve a "bye" for the first round. Games will take place between 5/29/07 and 6/2/07. This is a "one and done" tournament. The District 14-1 assignment for 2007:
No. 14-1 Holly
Deborah Van Kuiken, Athletic Director
Clarkston
Grand Blanc
Highland-Milford
Holly
Waterford Kettering
Waterford Mott
White Lake-Lakeland
